A monotube tower is a communication support structure consisting of a single column anchored to the ground. Its main body comprises the tower body, a working platform, and an internal ladder system. The tower body is typically constructed of high-strength, corrosion-resistant steel, with heights ranging from tens of meters, such as 7 to 75 meters. The cross-section is circular or polygonal, and the wall thickness is variable. Product specifications include height, steel plate thickness, anti-corrosion treatments such as hot-dip galvanizing, and operating temperature range.

 

Monotube towers are characterized by their simple structure, small footprint, convenient construction, rapid installation, and low maintenance costs. They are aesthetically pleasing and have minimal impact on the landscape, making them particularly suitable for urban centers, densely populated areas, or locations with limited space.

 

However, due to their single-column support structure, monotube towers have relatively weak stability and resistance to wind and earthquakes, and their height is limited. To improve stability, the industry has implemented design improvements. For example, China Tower has enhanced stability through patented technology that improves the connection between the pile foundation and the tower body, and has improved the load-bearing capacity of existing monotube towers through node reinforcement technology.

 

Design variations include integrated monotube towers, which combine the tower structure with the equipment room, offering advantages such as shorter construction time, lower costs, and smaller footprint. There are also multifunctional designs, such as "multi-functional viewing monotube towers" that integrate additional features like panoramic views. To minimize visual impact on the environment, landscape integration designs have been developed, such as "beautifying biomimetic trees" using a prototype monotube tower structure to better blend into natural or urban landscapes.
